I’ve lost touch with myself.
Somewhere between who you needed to be and everything you needed to handle, you stopped feeling like yourself. You may not need to find your old self again. You may need the space to understand who you are now.
It rarely happens all at once.
Your days run on autopilot. Everything gets done, and you can’t remember the last time you asked yourself how you actually are.
The things you used to love doing have slipped off the calendar, one busy season at a time.
If someone asked who you are, you’d answer with a role: parent, partner, employee, the one who holds it all together.
Decisions you used to make easily now come with a second guess.
You look at your life, or just at your week, and think: this doesn’t feel like me.
Parent. Partner. Employee. Caregiver. The dependable one.
Every one of those roles is real, and they matter. None of them was meant to be the whole of you.
When most of your time goes to other people’s needs, your own interests, opinions, and wants go quiet. They haven’t gone anywhere. They’ve just been waiting for some room.
This is about crossed out: who you were. rewritten as: who you are now.
You don’t have to get back to who you were before the kids, the move, or the promotion. That person got you here. The work now is getting to know the person you’ve become, and making room for them.
Nothing about you needs fixing. What tends to come back is this:
- Identity: A sense of yourself that isn’t only a job title or a role at home.
- Confidence: Trusting your own read on things again.
- Joy: Room for what you enjoy, without having to earn it first.
- Interests: Picking up what you set down, or finding something new to be curious about.
- Energy: Spending it on what matters to you, not only on what’s urgent.
- Possibility: Seeing more than one way your life could go from here.
The person you are now is worth getting to know.
If you want someone in your corner for it, there’s The Rewrite Method.
